dB-Bloc is a thin mass loaded vinyl. It is extremely dense, weighing in at more than 150 pounds per roll even though the material measures just 1/8" thick. The installation is mechanical, with a staple gun, roofing nail, sheet rock screw, or otherwise. Most of the feedback received is that it is easier to cut the pieces to the height of the wall and hang it vertically. Roll each section up, and attach first to the top of the wall. Let the material then collapse to the floor and move down the wall attaching the vinyl. Note that you do not have to tear out anything, just add to the existing surface.
