RSIC Clips are a mechanical clip system that is used in conjunction with the density of dB-Bloc to soundproof a wall. These isolation clips help to lift and separate your drywall away from the structure of a common surface to combat sound transmission. When structure borne sound vibrations attempt to transmit through a common surface, the RSIC Clips and their Hat Channels force a disconnection that will cause the collapse of the sound wave for a soundproof wall. These ISO Clips are designed to soundproof a wall or ceiling whether the assembly is new build, exposed joist or finished surface, wood framed or concrete.
Remember that this mechanical clip system is designed to trigger a disconnect in your framing structure. If you already have a disconnected wall or ceiling system, you do not need the channel system. Staggered studs and double walls are both ideal framing techniques that negate your need for the clip system. In any of these cases, however, you will still need the density of dB-Bloc layered into your assembly. Without weight, noise will bleed through any surface assembly.
For new build or exposed frame treatments, anchor dB-Bloc to your studs, then the RSIC Clips, and a single layer of drywall. For finished wall surfaces, do the same. For concrete block surfaces, anchor the clips first, then your dB-Bloc and your finished layer of drywall. This will help separate the density of dB-Bloc away from the concrete surface. The resulting dead air gap between the two masses will then collect and dissipate the trapped sound waves.
For cost control measures, consider replacing the need for the RSIC system with standard 1x4 wooden (or metal) slats. Anchor them perpendicular to the direction of the ceiling joists, or position them horizontally up your wall. This too will create a disconnection in your common surface structure. Be sure to first line the surface with dB-Bloc to generate the density you need to hold the sound to one side.
Also wrap any outlet boxes with Putty Packs, and install our Canopies above any recessed lights or exhaust fans in a ceiling treatment.
We do not sell the metal hat channels that go with your clip system. You can find these at most any building supply center.
