Problem: One of the most frequently asked questions about controlling noise! What can be done to block sound from coming through the wall?Goal:
To lower the sound levels of noise transmitting through a common wall. Solution: Not an easy task. You are at a disadvantage is your room is already built, and you cannot structurally rebuild
your wall. If this is the case, start with our barrier material and line it on your existing wall surface, then cover it with a second layer of sheet rock or paneling.
Along this line, check to see how practical it would be to first apply horizontal firring strips or resilient channels to minimize contact points through the wall.
Remember: Noise vibrates through the studs in your walls! Simply stuffing insulation between the joists will not address the vibration issue!
Finally, for new build or remodel scenarios, build either a staggered wall our a double wall. Do not allow the studs to connect through from one
room to the other. This will force the vibration to die inside the wall! Then add the mass of our barrier material to the studs and complete the finishing off!
Note: Foam panels on a wall DO NOT BLOCK NOISE from transmitting through! Absorption products CAPTURE ECHO bouncing back into the same room the noise is coming from. Foam protects the ears in that
same room. Heavy, weighted barrier products are what you need to protect ears next door!
Products: dB-Bloc is a thin, weighted PVC vinyl material made available for wall,
ceiling and floor treatment for sound transmission loss. Despite its .10" thickness, each 50' roll weighs 250 pounds! Ideal for placement between layers of wall surfaces, behind sheet rock, above ceiling tiles and
underneath floors! For suggestions on retrofitting into a finished room, contact NetWell's consultants! QBS-1 Blankets
are 1" thick, portable fiberglass blankets with the weighted barrier vinyl sewn inside. Ideal for portable door or window
coverings, lining walls in a furnace room, around an outdoor pool pump, compressor or generator, or for those garage bands needing temporary portable sound stoppage!
