How to Choose the Right Acoustic Panels
Selecting the right acoustic panels is essential for a successful sound treatment. Two key factors—coverage area and panel thickness—will determine how well your space controls echo, noise, and sound clarity.
1. Coverage Area
Your panel coverage depends on your room’s dimensions, shape, and surface textures. Large or reflective spaces may require more coverage to achieve optimal results.
2. Panel Thickness
Thicker panels absorb lower-frequency sounds, while thinner panels are best for mid-to-high frequencies.
💡 Tip: Work with our trained sound consultants to design the right panel plan for your space.

How Many Acoustic Panels Do I Need?
The volume of your room, surface finishes, and how the room is used all play a critical role in determining the recommended square foot coverage of acoustic panels. To avoid under-treating your space—which can reduce the effectiveness of your sound treatment—submit a Room Analysis and our experts will calculate your exact coverage needs.
Does It Matter Where I Place Acoustic Panels on the Walls?
The placement of wall-mounted acoustic panels can affect how well your room controls echo and improves clarity — but how critical location is depends on the type of space.
Smaller Rooms or Stationary Sound Sources
In smaller rooms, or spaces where sound comes from a fixed location (like speakers, a podium, or a stage), panel placement is more important. Positioning panels at the first reflection points — typically at ear level along the side walls where sound first bounces — will make speech clearer and reduce distracting echoes.Larger Rooms or Moving Sound Sources
In bigger venues such as gyms, cafeterias, or multipurpose halls, sound comes from many directions and reflects off multiple surfaces. In these cases, coverage is more important than exact location. Evenly distributing panels around the perimeter will reduce overall reverberation and improve sound quality, regardless of where people are speaking or moving.Design & Practical Considerations
Panels can be fabric-wrapped in a wide variety of colors or custom-painted to blend seamlessly with your décor, so you can balance performance with aesthetics.
Bottom line: In smaller, directional spaces, place panels at reflection points for maximum impact. In larger, more diffuse spaces, focus on achieving the right amount of evenly distributed coverage. Either way, wall-mounted acoustic panels are an effective solution for controlling echoes and enhancing clarity.

Do Wall-Mounted Acoustic Panels Work Better Than Ceiling-Mounted Panels?
The short answer: it depends on your ceiling shape.
Flat ceilings – In most standard rooms with flat ceilings, the location of your acoustic panels is less important than the total coverage area. Whether mounted on walls or ceilings, the key is ensuring enough panel surface is evenly distributed to absorb reflections. Once echoes are reduced, sound clarity improves no matter where the panels are placed.
Vaulted or pitched ceilings – In rooms with angled ceilings, sound waves often reflect off those sloped surfaces and concentrate toward the center of the room—right where people are gathered. In these cases, treating the inclined ceiling surfaces first can be more effective than treating only the walls, as it intercepts those reflections before they cause excessive echo.
Bottom line: For flat ceilings, focus on achieving the right amount of coverage. For vaulted ceilings, prioritize the angled ceiling surfaces before adding wall-mounted acoustic panels.

How can I disguise my acoustic panels?
For a discreet soundproofing solution, choose ceiling-mounted panels or panels color-matched to your décor.
Fabric Panels – Available in a wide variety of fabric colors
Blush Panels – Can be custom-painted to match your space
Choosing Panel Thickness
The thickness of your acoustic panels plays a big role in how effectively they absorb sound. The right choice depends on whether your space is used primarily for speech or for music.
1″ Thick Panels – Best for Speech-Dominated Spaces
Ideal for classrooms, offices, conference rooms, call centers, and restaurants without live music.
These panels target the mid-to-high frequencies where human speech lives (500 Hz – 4 kHz), improving clarity and communication without unnecessary bulk.2″ Thick Panels – Best for Music or Mixed-Use Spaces
Recommended for band rooms, auditoriums, performance halls, recording studios, and restaurants with live performances.
Thicker panels absorb a wider range of frequencies, especially lower tones, making them essential for music-heavy environments. When 2″ Panels Can Help Speech Rooms
While 1″ panels are usually perfect for speech-only spaces, there are times when 2″ panels provide extra benefits:Larger or highly reverberant rooms (like churches or gymnasiums)
Spaces with hard, reflective surfaces (glass, concrete, tile)
Projects where maximum noise control is desired
Bottom line: If your space is primarily for voice, 1″ panels are cost-effective and highly effective. If music is part of the equation—or if you want maximum absorption in a difficult speech environment—2″ panels are the smarter choice.

Acoustic Panel Materials

Our panels use a 6-pound-density compressed fiberglass core, wrapped in a durable acoustically transparent cloth textile. Edges can be epoxy-dipped for crush resistance—perfect for gymnasiums—or left natural for standard applications. There is no need for an internal frame or plywood backing board, which can reduce the performance of noise-cancelling panels.
Are the Acoustic Panels Waterproof?
Fabric-wrapped panels are not moisture-proof. However, VET Panels and Wet Room Panels are designed for high-moisture & humid environments.
Fire Safety
All our acoustic panels meet ASTM E84 Class A fire ratings:
- Flame spread: ≤ 25
- Smoke density: ≤ 50
Acoustic Panel Installation
Every panel comes with the appropriate clip system for easy self-installation:
RSIC Clips. The most popular installation clip system for drywall surfaces. Plastic clips are screwed into the backside of the acoustic panels. Markers are placed into the clips. The panels are then pressed against the drywall and make indentations where the mating portion of the clip is secured to the wall.
Z-Clips. Ideal mounting hardware for application to concrete, block, or brick surfaces. Metal clips are epoxied into the backside of your sound panels prior to shipment. Metal brackets are included with the shipment and secure directly to the mounting surface. The Z-clips attached to the panel slide onto the corresponding wall brackets.
Impaling Clips. The easiest and most universal install method for all types of mounting surfaces—uses a combination of a metal impaling clip and construction adhesive. Screw the impaling clips into the wall with their teeth protruding out. Place adhesive on the backside of the panel, position it into place, and press it against the wall & clips. The impaling clips hold the panel in place while the adhesive cures. Note: This method should not be used for mounting panels to ceilings.
Are Acoustic Panels Worth the Investment?
Yes — absolutely. Acoustic panels are one of the most cost-effective ways to improve the comfort, usability, and value of your space. By reducing echoes and controlling noise, you transform your room from a distracting environment into a place where people can communicate, focus, and enjoy themselves.
