Soundproofing a Sanctuary

St Mary's Catholic Church

The Challenge

St Mary's Catholic Church is located in Montrose, Colorado on the Western Slope of the Continental Divide.   Their new church building was dedicated in 2001.   The acoustics in the sanctuary were poor due to extended sound reflections that carried throughout the room.    NetWell was contacted in an attempt to help produce a better acoustic environment for their services.   Our goal was to collapse the background noise by slowing down the sound reflections.   In turn, this would deliver better clarity to the spoken word, and more harmonic tones from their choir, organ and musical instruments.

The Treatment

Following the installation of the Fabric Panels, the unwanted sound reflections in the room were captured and converted.   The background noise in the room was eliminated as speech clarity and harmonic musical tones were restored to the sanctuary.   Today congregations enjoy the sounds of quality worship services at the St Mary's Catholic Church.

The Result:

To control the unwanted sound reflections in the room, NetWell recommended the installation of a set of cloth wrapped Fabric Panels.   The panels are class A fire rated, decorative, colorful and work to absorb enough sound energy in the room to collapse the reflections down to under 2.0 seconds.    The panels were custom cut to match wall dimensions and angled roof lines.
